During series of units we learnt many skillsets to aid us in our future. In the very first unit we learnt the basic components of one-way sound system which was helped me expand my production range, because I learnt how to incorporate live sound in my production also it taught me how to work and communicate well in a group. In unit 2 we analyzed 3 performances of different genres observed the body language of a performer and how their stage persona got the audience invested in them.
Unit 3 was about music business which is a very vital unit which could protect all musicians in the future. During this unit I learnt about many job roles and how they all work together to sell a record. We also learnt about publishing companies and PRS which how most artists and musicians gain revue. Unit 4 was based on how Jamaican culture has impacted British music, we were informed on the history of Jamaican music and various genres. This was an interesting unit because I got to push myself to make reggae beat which I could adopt some techniques in the future to add to my arsenal.
Unit 5 was about sound creation and manipulation which included synthesizers and samplers. During this unit we learnt about the history of synthesizer and samplers as well as how to use them. We were given the task of creating a track only using the ES1 and ES2, to do so we created patches which replicated different instruments such as strings, pads, pluck sounds and many more. This helped us become more unique producers because we had creative control and made this sounds from scratch. For the sampling part of the unit we were given a series of samples including drums, pianos, vocals and more. We had to chop up samples and include a part we wanted to build a song, using the EXS24 I was able to manipulate the samples.
These units overall have elevated me as musician and producer. I able to adopt these techniques in my production and made me more confident in my instincts, throughout these units we were put into pairs which helped my communication skills.
